All children and youth deserve a bright future. Post-secondary education is an important step in that journey, but it can be one with many challenges for those formerly in government care.
Youth in care ‘age out’ of the system at age 19 losing all support from their foster parents, social workers, government programs, along with any financial assistance. Other young people may have a family to fall back on, but former youth in care often have no one, making pursuing post-secondary education and future careers challenging.
Since its inception in 2014, the Youth Futures Education Fund has supported over 2,500 students attending college or university on a tuition waiver with over $3.3 million in Youth Futures support. The fund covers basic living expenses like rent, food, bills, and textbooks for students.
Founding Fund partner, Coast Capital is stepping forward to help educational dreams come true for more former youth in care. Until November 30th, for every new member who signs up for a chequing account, they will donate $150* to the Youth Futures Education Fund to help former youth in care with their living expenses as they pursue their post-secondary dreams. New members can also earn 20% cashback* on their household bills.
